These are the thoughts Angie Chaviers, our Certification Chair shared at the
Camp Kick-off Meeting Oct. 21, 2014 (from one of the linked talks below):
As a young Missionary Elder Carl B. Cook found himself discouraged while in the MTC trying to learn a new language. He noticed others in his district were progressing much faster. He became very concerned and started to question his ability to serve, so he decided to turn to the Lord in prayer. He recalls, The Lord answered that prayer. Elder Cook says, "I never called you to master the German language. I just called you to serve with all of your heart, mind, and strength." From that point on, my measuring stick changed… I focused on how the Lord felt I was doing. Instead of looking to the side to compare myself to others, I began to look up, so to speak, to know what He thought of my efforts. I began counseling with Heavenly Father in the morning, telling Him that I didn’t know what the day would bring but that I would do my very best. “Whatever I can learn, allow me to learn it,” I prayed, “but no matter what, I’m going to give Thee my very best today.”
I think the challenge for all of us—but perhaps particularly for young adults—is to try not to look sideways to see how others are viewing our lives but to look up to see how Heavenly Father sees us. We can “look up” by staying true to the direction we’ve received from a loving Heavenly Father…

In the beginning of the movie “Up”, the main characters placed in their adventure book where they thought their adventure would be. But in the end Carl finally sees that the adventure was in his everyday life.
In our lives we should be striving to make every day good, something we can be proud of, something the Lord is proud of. We want you embark on an adventure of service with all your hearts, might, mind and strength in your everyday life, by looking “up” and following the direction we’ve received from our loving Heavenly Father.
It will be “Up” to you to decide if you will
Wake Up – and decide to have a good day. As we arise each morning let us determine to respond with more love and kindness to whatever might come our way.
Dress Up – With a smile on your face. Within the Lord’s guidelines, there is room for you to be lively, vibrant, & beautiful in your dress and in your actions.
Cheer Up – Say something nice and have a positive attitude. So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference.
Stand Up – for what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything.
Look Up – to the Lord. He is only a prayer away. No problem is too small for His attention nor so large that he cannot answer the prayer of Faith.
Lift Up – Be a good friend and help those around you. We are under covenant both to lift up those in need and to be witnesses of the Savior as long as we live.
Reach Up – For something higher. Of all the treasures of knowledge, the most vital is the knowledge of God.
Build Up - As individuals we are strong. Together with God, we are UNSTOPPABLE.

Through our choices, we decide what type of adventure we will have, and where our final destination will be.
